Millions of dollars worth of new developments are in the pipeline for Rotorua this year - including a new supermarket, lakeside spa complex, and two shopping complexes.
Deputy mayor Dave Donaldson, who holds the economic development portfolio for the Rotorua Lakes Council, said it was shaping up to be a big year for Rotorua.
"Just this morning I talked to a contractor who had people begging him to come back to work."
Projects include the construction of the second stage of Lynmore Junction, the new FreshChoice supermarket on Te Ngae Rd, the state-of-the-art dementia village at Ngongotaha and the redevelopment of Trade Central which could see up to 20 stores added.
Meanwhile plans are progressing on a spa development and hotel at Rotorua's Lakefront.
